Drug company Hetero has announced that molnupiravir showed positive results in Phase III trials.

The results were presented at the Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections (CROI). The trial revealed that molnupiravir, in association with standard of care (SOC), led to a reduction in the risk of hospitalization by more than 65%, compared with SOC alone.

There was early viral clearance and significant clinical improvement within five days of administering the drug, stated the company. In the Phase III trials, one of the studies enrolled 1,218 COVID-19 patients, who were recruited within five days of symptom onset.
